BEGINNING BAND PARENT’S CHECKLIST
We are so glad that you (and your son or daughter) are interested in joining the 5th Grade Band. This checklist will help you make sure you are ready to start band by the first day of school.
1. Sign and Return the band enrollment form. Every 5th grader will receive a form at school after they have test-tried the instruments with Mrs. Franzen in late August/early September.
2. Rent, Purchase or otherwise acquire your child’s instrument, book, and supplies. All of your questions of "How do I get an instrument?", "What book or supplies do I need?, etc. will be answered on this website. Additionally, you can read the papers sent home by your band teacher.
3. If you have obtained a pre-owned instrument, make sure it is in good working order (clean, working condition). Please see our list of preferred instrument brands on the website and we suggest that you take the instrument to a local music store to make sure it is in good working condition. There is nothing more frustrating for a beginner than trying to progress on an instrument that does not work properly.
